Russia Day

One of the newest national holidays in Russia is the Russian Day. It is the day off for Russian people and many banks, offices, even shops are closed. The Day celebrates the beginning of some democratic reforms taken in Russia as well as honoring Great Russian nationality.
The holiday appeared not long ago – in 1990, - when the Soviet leaders agreed to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and signed a declaration of Russia’s state sovereignty. This was a movement towards Russian democratic reforms beginning and Russia's becoming independent from the USSR.
The holiday finally got its name in 2002 only – before it changed its name two times: the Independence Day and the Day of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation.
Concerning the celebration to be a great showing of patriotism, the program of the holiday seems to be very intense. First of all, the President will invest some national awards to prominent Russian citizens researching science, doing business, and carrying a humanitarian work. Throughout the country, a huge number of events take place: concerts, shows, other occasions and affairs. An admirable firework is usually the conclusion of this essential Day.

11-13 June (Petropavlovskaya fortress, free entrance):
12.00-19.00 – national culture festival
The Summer Ethnofest is devoted to different kinds of national cuisines. You will be able to try Russian pies, Lithuanian pancakes, Georgian hachapuri, Azerdaidzhan kebab, exotic Cuban dishes and Spanish paella. The master classes and degustation of food will take place.
11 June: The sport event National Cohesion
The professional MMA tournament Grand Prix with boxers, kick-boxers, sambo wrestlers and others will take part.
12 June: The international sailing regatta The Golden paddles of Saint Petersburg

12 June (300 years Anniversary of Saint Petersburg park), free entrance:
There will take place a great concert with different singers, bands and stars participating.
People of all age will be able to try some educational stages to check their physical abilities, to learn something new about modern armament equipment, technics etc., to try shooting on the shore of the Finish bay, to visit a mobile museum, showing some recently found items of the Second World War.

Moreover, traditionally, everyone will be able to have a meal cooked in the mobile kitchen trailer.
