WIn and around St Petersbur .

From the beginning of St Petersburg, in its initial layout, outdoor relaxation was considered an important part of the new city and court life. The famous Summer Gardens were intended to be a private haven for nobility but later became an center for meeting, relaxation, and courtship by all classes with the only restriction being properly dressed. During the later Imperial and throughout the Soviet era, parks became the main source of relaxation for the working classes and they were expanded to include every region of the city.

We are presenting information about some of the most familair parks and recreation areas in the city. Most cruise ship passengers will not have the time to use them but it is interesting to know about them to get a feel of the city and way of life of the local citizens.
