DenRus:2010 "St Pete On Your Own"

Visiting St Petersburg as an independent traveler

Note: This page is exculsively for those visitors who a.) Do not wish the presence of a guide and who specifically want to be totally independent and alone in Russia; B.) Who want to obtain a Russian visa.

We at DenRus (St Petersburg), Ltd,are all travelers ourselves and like to explore new places to get a feel of the culture and we know some of our cruise ship passengers want the flexibility of exploring St Petersburg on their own also.   We wish to help those preferring this style of travel to do it with minimum stress and uncertainty.

Russia IS different than other places you have been. Russian culture developed over about 800 years, with limited contact and trade with Europe and other regions so its customs, systems, and traditions evolved in relative isolation. That means some familiar tasks, activities and traditions are not so familiar in Russia.  The Russian Language is strange and exotic to many westerners who are used to Latin alphabet and sentence structure. For example.St Petersburg is the least Russian of the major cities, it is very European by design so of anywhere in Russia, it is the easiest to navigate and explore on your own.   It is surprisingly easy to find your way around despite not reading street signs and it is hard to get lost in the historic city center.  We think you will learn more and experience more on a an organized tour such as our Custom Tours and Value Excursions if you are in port for 1,2 or 3 days but for those who wish to learn by independent discovery we can still help in many ways.

First off, any visitors who explores Russian on their own needs a Russian Visa.  They are not hard to get if the instructions are followed and is planned for a few weeks before arriving.  We can supply the required Visa Support Letter with the necessary Tourist Voucher. From long experience we recommend a mixed approach in planning independent exploration, visas for freedom of movement and a guide for the vast knowledge at your disposal is the best solution, unless your are familair with our city.

DenRus Ltd will be happy to assist in planning your independent travel in St Petersburg and any services you might need or desire are available. Else where on this web site you will find information that will be helpful in planning your visit including lists and information about some of the 255 museums, many palaces, theaters, customs, language, contemporary culture and life of Russia
