A practical guide with a wealth of information but not as attractive as the EyeWitness Series above, might be used as more of reference than the volume above because the amount of useful practical information contained in it about general travel in Russia, covering both Moscow and St Petersburg.
Lonely Planet guidebooks all have very good reputations and this one deserves it. It is very thorough with lots of detail. It is more a fact book than the Eye Witness book a the top which is best for capturing the mood and spirit of the city. My recommendation is for both since that serve different needs.
