Berlin shall always remain as the most telling, vivid, and eventful location for the Jewish life and history in Europe. This fact and experience are represented by remarkable sites and locations, real witnesses of the local Jewish history, which shall always remain in the city. This tour offers you a fair-minded view of former historical events and incidents, as well as understanding of today’s current Jewish life.
Start your day with a relaxing ride through the rural Mecklenburg and Brandenburg regions passing by wide fields, green forests and lovely villages. Before Berlin we are first heading towards the town of Oranienburg. During the ride, which lasts slightly over 2 hours, our driver/guide shall provide information about the day’s program and destinations. A restroom stop will be made along the way.
Upon arrival in Oranienburg we have also arrived at the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp memorial site. You shall have approximately 1,5 hours, to get an overview of this camp housing political prisoners and dissidents from the 1930s onward. The camp was not necessarily a dedicated death camp for Jewish prisoners, like the numerous ones that followed later, but thousands of other political prisoners, and POW’s  died of starvation and other reasons behind its barbed wire fences. You will have an opportunity to see the famous camp entrance, with the words  “Work will set You Free”, the roll call area, the guard towers, the crematory, the prisoners’ barracks, the execution chamber, and execution trenches, the laundry, which is now a chapel, and the remainder of this austere prison. There is also a museum.
Another 45 minutes ride will bring us from Sachsenhausen to the centre of Berlin. After having a photo stop at the Reichstag, the Parliament area,  and the Brandenburg Gate for strolling around a special snack stop will be arranged. (Lunch is not included in the tour price.)
Our Jewish tour of Berlin will start at the huge and unforgettable Holocaust Memorial,  The memorial will fill an entire city block, having been built on the  former site of the Old Synagogue. We shall continue to the New Synagogue, dedicated in 1866, and regarded as the greatest and most glorious Jewish cultic building in former times.
The last highlight will be the Jewish Museum. Opened in 2001 the museum is today one of the most spectacular museum buildings in Germany, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. Most recently in September 2007 a new addition was dedicated, when  the museum’s new inner courtyard, with its inspiring glass construction built from the design entitled "Sukkah", had its grand opening.  At that time great international Grand Opening Ceremonies took place, and it attracted lots of attention in the entire world.
Sit back and relax afterwards while returning to Warnemunde and to your ship.
