Tallinn Estonia

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, appears in the history books for the first time in 1154 when Arab map specialists marked her location on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. During the centuries Estonia belonged territorially to several of the neighboring countries, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Russia. The current, and the country’s second independence was declared in 1991 when Estonia separated from the Soviet Union. Prior to that Estonia had enjoyed a brief period of independence in the early 1900s.
Today Estonia, an extremely progressive country, has already obtained a membership in the United Nations, and in the European Union. Due to her geographical location Tallinn has always been a strategic trading center between East and West, North and South. Because of her importance the city has been attacked, sacked, razed and pillaged countless times. Regardless of that, the city still proudly displays her medieval Old Town walls and buildings and the “Toompea” district, also known as the Cathedral Hill. The Old Town was traditionally the center of trade and commerce, when the Toompea was the center for the rulers, both governmental and religious. Even today the seat of the government, as well as many foreign embassies are located there. .
